Mike

I was sick and tired of how I looked and felt. I was on Facebook and saw the New You Challenge. I did not know where it was at or what in involved. I saw that it created a meal plan and was obviously at some type of gym.

When I saw it was at Spring Lake Crossfit, I was a bit apprehensive. I have always scoffed at Crossfit. Well, I jumped in with both feet, joined the challenge and I was hooked. I loved the atmosphere of the gym and the coaches. They truly care about you and how you are doing. They make sure you are doing the movements correctly unlike other “boot camp” type places. I am still on the meal plan today. The challenge was 6 weeks. I lost 13lbs, and 5% body fat plus 7 total inches in the right spots. I feel better, look better, am stronger and more confident. I decided to commit to year membership at Spring Lake Crossfit. I am hooked. This is what I needed to be the healthiest me i can be. Thank you to Erica, Adrian and Nate.

Life can suck sometimes. BIG time. But You know what I found that can help? Working out; specifically, Crossfit. I most definitely found exactly what I needed when I signed up for the 6 weeks New You program. I was down, depressed, no ambition, lonely, I had let myself go, had let friendships go, bounced back and forth between bad relationships, allowed myself to be used, and had lost all focus of ME. We sometimes can’t help traumatic life events, but we can help our future and our happiness. Thankfully I had a few good friends who encouraged me to try Crossfit when they saw me in that state. I was worried though; I hadn’t worked out in years!! I worried About the cost, if I could I handle the classes, how silly I would look, and if I’d even stick with it. The program BY FAR exceeded any expectation I had!! I remember walking in on my first day pretty nervous and second guessing myself on what I signed up for! Not to mention getting there at 6am and still half asleep. I looked around and saw these weird circle plates with a hole in the middle, a bunch of rings and ropes hanging down from the rafters, big wood boxes, chalk marking all over the floor, a bunch of metal bars that I knew NOTHING about and loud music blaring. However, I was instantly greeted with a smile, encouragement and a welcoming environment. As the days went on, my fear turned into excitement. And I knew I was hooked by Week 3.

Jim

Jim came in wanting to enhance his overall fitness and health. He’s been coming regularly and putting in the work and it has paid off! Over just 2 months time, he has lost 5% body fat, feels great, and is in the best shape of his life! Yeah, Jim! Way to smash those goals!!!

Krue

Meet Krue! He’s been working with Coach Erica for a while as part of our Kid’s CrossFit program. He started coming to improve his sports performance, and is measurably faster and stronger! According to him, he feels AWESOME! (And exhausted, but this was after class. ????) Way to make those gains, Krue! Stronger every day!

Elliot

Elliot started doing personal training with Coach Nate with a plan to strengthen specific muscles that would help control his back pain. Three months later? Elliott is PAIN FREE!!!

Kris, Cindy, and Tyler

Kris, Cindy and Tyler did 3 months of Personal Training with Coach Erica and are now in regular CrossFit classes. Their progress over the last 3 months of Personal Training was incredible. At 44 years old, Cindy was tired of back pain and knew she needed to strengthen her core. She couldn’t do one sit-up or one squat. Today she has come so far. Crushing weighted back squats and countless sit-ups in a row; minimizing her back pain by improving her posture and strengthening her core.

Cindy told us, “This is not all about me being stronger physically, but also mentally; And I have this new amazing CrossFit family all in my corner, cheering me on.” Kris has lost nearly 50 pounds, gained some lean muscle, and greatly improved his cardiovascular endurance. 14-year-old Tyler is turning into a little CrossFit machine, picking up barbell and gymnastics movements quickly, and gaining so much confidence. “Overall, CrossFit has really brought us closer as a family by giving us a healthier life. We are so very thankful for Erica for all that she has pushed us to find in ourselves.”

Nicole

“I participated in the 6 week New You Crossfit Challenge and it was such an awesome experience. As a mom of 3 young kids, I had not been in a regular workout routine for a while but after completing this challenge I feel like I haven’t been this strong in years. I’m happily amazed at how fast the Crossfit workouts transformed my body. Our trainer Erica was so awesome to work with; she is an amazing coach and worked with each of us individually to make sure we were reaching our full potential. I would highly recommend SkeeTown Crossfit to anyone looking to maximize their potential in fitness and in life!” -Nicole

Since joining Spring Lake, I have improved leaps and bounds. There were times I felt frustrated and didn’t think I could get certain movements down, but now I am [completing] a few workouts a week [as prescribed]. My push-ups have good form and I am able to perform them properly during WODs and I am getting so close on my kipping pull-ups. All of a sudden all the hard work is starting to show and pay off. Everything just clicks and it’s such a great feeling. I still struggle with some movements like my arch-rival, the snatch. But that’s what is so great about the coaches. They have so much patience and have been helping me break it down, and my form is looking better and better. I truly appreciate how I have changed physically since joining and the great people I have met!

Before I joined Spring Lake, I would rarely ever pick up a weight. Why? Simple. I didn’t know the benefits of weight lifting. With little to no results from what I was doing, I eventually decided to sign up for personal training at my local gym. My trainer showed me some weightlifting but hardly anything ‘free weight’, everything was always on a machine. I got bored quickly and after some convincing from my husband, I decided to try CrossFit. I had previously tried it once before and didn’t really like it that much. He assured me that the coaches and class sizes were WAY better than our previous experience. Boy, was he right!! I quickly went from a punch card membership (after I used up all 10 visits in less than 2 weeks) to an unlimited membership! I have only been doing CrossFit for about 5 months now and I have discovered a newfound love for lifting and always wanting to better myself in every aspect of my fitness level. And of course, the coaches and the other athletes make working out fun, instead of it feeling like a chore!

My journey began as a challenge from my brother. My first thought was, “Are you kidding me?” But through many sessions it’s [become] a personal challenge to improve both health and body. The competitiveness is still there between my brother and me, and this has brought another bond between us. It challenges us each to keep improving. It has also spilled over into my family with helping and encouraging each other to become more healthy and fit, and being able to do more activities without discomfort.

In the beginning there were many challenges and thoughts of not being able to complete the different workouts. But over time with instructional guidance from Bobby, Jeff, and Mike, I was able to improve in many areas. The staff’s guidance is key to success at Spring Lake CrossFit. I don’t feel you get that in a regular gym. They are always willing to help you out and answer your questions.

One of the challenges I faced was recovering from an injury and having to start at ground zero again. I had to work to overcome both physical and mental issues to get back to where I previously was and to be able to move forward. With the coach’s guidance and fellow CrossFitters encouraging you to try your hardest, I was back to full range of motion within a month.

My journey though fitness has been just that…a journey. I’ve always had exercise as a part of my life but was never TrueType dedicated to it until about 5 years ago. I discovered distance running and it changed my life both physically and mentally. CrossFit has only enhanced this. The strength I have gained has helped my endurance and also showed me that I can do more! SkeeTown CrossFit has an awesome community and coaches that have encouraged me to push myself.

P.S. Endurance WODs are the best!

My fitness story has been a long and bumpy road. Trying to find a program that worked for me was a very difficult task. I tried the traditional gyms and the at-home programs like P90X and wasn’t getting the results that I wanted. I first heard about CrossFit about 3 ears ago and knew very little about what it was actually all about. I thought that it was just another type of program that all the crazy “meatheads” were doing just so they could be cool. After my weight and overall health hit an all time low I started again looking for a gym or program that felt right for me. I saw a video of someone doing the lovely “Fran” WOD and thought that it looked amazing!

After doing some research into the whole CrossFit thing I decided to bite the bullet and check out a box to see what the workouts were like in person. I was absolutely blown away! Not just by the workout that day but the fact that I saw people of all ages and various physical abilities enjoying it and pushing themselves to finish. But the one thing that really sealed the deal for me was seeing how the last few people to finish were being cheered on and encouraged by the people who were already done. After taking some time off after my knee surgery I started looking for another box that had a schedule more suitable to me. That’s when I found SkeeTown, and I am so glad that I did. Since starting here in late April I have noticed huge improvements in my overall health and mood, and the camaraderie with all the members and coaches is amazing! Even with 3 major physical limitations (spinal fusion, reconstructed elbow, knee surgery )

I am more in shape now than I have been in the past 10 years. Thank you CrossFit for giving me hope again. And a very big thank you to the coaches and members of Spring Lake, you guys rock!!

When it comes to my physicality, CrossFit has challenged me to redefine the parameters I placed myself in. Personally, CrossFit has increased my daily resiliency, energy, patience and overall strength. I look forward to always learning every day and constantly enhance my health while building relationships with some of the most dedicated and AWESOME people around.

I have struggled with my weight for over two decades. I have tried several methods to lose the weight and keep it off but have failed every time. A few friends mentioned CrossFit so I started looking around the Internet to see what the rave was all about. To be honest I was terrified since I have never been athletic. I assumed people who did CrossFit were in shape and top tier athletes. Of course my friends told me otherwise, so I took one of the biggest steps toward my personal fitness and decided to check Skeetown out.

Day one was tough though I quickly realized even though I was indeed at the bottom for the first class everyone including the coach was very encouraging and there were no egos to deal with. Now that I have been doing CrossFit for several months I have noticed a significant change in my body composition, and my overall fitness, not to mention I am drastically stronger. I have finally found a sport that I am excelling in. CrossFit has pulled the inner athlete out of me. I believe we all have an inner athlete; we just need to find the sport that pulls it out. CrossFit might not be the answer for all but it has been for me. CrossFit has literally changed my life. I have never felt better nor had a better self-image in my entire life. Not to mention the back pain that has literally vanished. If I can do CrossFit I assure you anyone can!

Since starting CrossFit I’ve seen a significant increase in my overall strength. What amazed me the most was how quickly I became stronger and surpassed some of my max efforts on certain lifts that in the past took me seemingly “forever” to build up to. I’ve also noticed that I’m faster and stronger in my triathlon disciplines; specifically swimming and biking, without having to train them each 3-5x per week like I’ve done in the past- which is fantastic!

Training with Bobby and Jeff at Spring Lake CrossFit for 7 months has got me into the best shape of my life. If you give them a couple months I guarantee they will whip you into shape! They are patient and encouraging to beginners, but structured for athletes of all levels to succeed. Besides the killer WOD’s, these guys can help you recover fast from injuries, get you eating correctly, and overall become stronger and healthier. Joining SkeeTown is easily one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time!

I started attending Spring Lake CrossFit to try something new after a friend recommended this place. I have never been the athletic type that could learn movements easily and Grace is NOT my middle name. I will admit I was a little unsure about doing a workout with other people around when I was sure I would be older then most of the other members. If any of these concerns are yours…. See you at the next class! Seriously!! You could not find a more supportive group of people. The trainers Bobby, Jeff, and Mike are encouraging while insisting on safety first. Everything done here can be scaled (adjusted to fit the person) until they are strong enough to do without the modification. You will get stronger. You will get healthier. You will get encouraged and yes, even a little more graceful. You might just be surprised how much fun you can actually have during a workout, I know I was.

About a year ago I was prompted by a friend to try CrossFit and I laughed it off as not for me…three months later my beautiful wife shows me a CrossFit groupon. I give in and check it out…best move I’ve ever made. Let me say I’ve never had any routine where feel withdrawal if I miss a session. The training is phenomenal as well, and there is a common goal everyone is trying to achieve, and will. Who would’ve thought at almost 50 I’d be doing handstand pushups. Thank you Jeff, Bobby, Mike and all the friction family, I appreciate all of you.

The Spring Lake CrossFit community is amazing, I love how everyone supports one another, and everyone has their own strengths that can inspire each other! We sometimes need others to look to for motivation and inspiration to push harder and achieve our goals (and beyond). The community at SkeeTown breeds this mentality. Even if we fail and are hard on ourselves, the SkeeTown family and the coaches keep pushing us all little by little to reach our goals (big or small), and then one day we “nail it” with the perfect form, the perfect rhythm, a PR! They are there for a pat on the back for our victories or lend a helping hand when we fail! I’ve made so many gains in the past 6 months since I have joined SkeeTown. I am doing movements in both strength and gymnastics I never thought I’d get this soon! I set aside my struggles & frustrations I had before, and looked beyond my fears, and with the help from my coaches & my teammates I have powered through them! I have new goals and new records I want to reach, and being a part of SkeeTown CrossFit I am now confident I can get there!

CrossFit is my escape from everyday life. For 1-3 hours of my day, I can get away and only worry about the workout itself and not let work or other problems affect me. Since January, my fitness has improved drastically. My strength and endurance are much better than they were then, not to mention my mental game is stronger as well.

Before joining CrossFit, you would have never found me working out in a group atmosphere. I used to try and go to the gym when no one was there because I had no routine and didn’t really know what I was doing. That didn’t last long before I decided to sign up for personal training. At that time, Bobby (Current coach/co-owner of SkeeTown CrossFit) was my trainer. He pushed me, knew what I was capable of, cared about my goals, and made me enjoy working out. When he established Spring Laske CrossFit, I followed him to the CrossFit gym. I was very hesitant at first because I didn’t know a lot of people who had done CrossFit and it was a new experience for me. It was one of the greatest steps outside my comfort zone. I went from curling 10-pound dumbbells to lifting 125 pounds over my head! I’m very competitive and played sports all through high school, so CrossFit is a perfect in between and I can workout and have fun while doing it! CrossFit has improved my body weight movements, heavy lifts, and flexibility. It has also increased my confidence and ability to be mentally strong.

It’s amusing when I read articles written by people who think CrossFit is just picking up a heavy object for one rep then setting it down, they are definitely wrong. Attempt a full-blown workout with as many reps as you can for 20 minutes, its not possible to be successful at this without mental focus, which is what I have learned and am still learning after doing CrossFit for 10 months. I’m so thankful to be a part of a supportive gym where I’ve made friends who push me and want me to succeed. I’ve even caught myself a few times saying “this one time at CrossFit”!! Its hard to not be a “CrossFit addict” when you have three awesome coaches who encourage you and workout buddies who care about your PR’s just as much as you. There is no final stage of CrossFit, which is what I love because you can always strive for more. I’m looking forward to accomplishing my current goals and making new ones!

I have been doing CrossFit for almost two years. I originally started CrossFit to keep physically fit for the Marines but stayed because of the community. The CrossFit community is really great and I enjoy every minute of it. Everyone is really encouraging and genuinely excited for each other when goals are met. There are so many people of different ages, abilities, and fitness levels, but the camaraderie from everyone working together is amazing.

Takieta B.

I started CrossFit at Spring Lake CrossFit in mid-June of 2015. When I first started I had a hard time performing most of the moves, yet they were challenging and fun at the same time. I had to scale every WOD and my form was very bad. Here I am 3 months in, I’ve noticed significant increase in my strength and endurance. I’m RX’ing WODS and have met a few PR goals. Unwanted inches are starting to melt away and I can see muscle tone.

The community here is supportive and FUN. Coach Bobby, Jeff, and Mike are amazing. They have so much patience. They explain the workouts well and guide you to make sure each movement is performed properly and with good form. I want give special thanks to Coach Bobby for pushing me beyond my comfort zone. I still struggle with some of the moves and have a lot of work to do. But my overall experience has been great!
