When you first lay eyes on her, you want to hate her. You really, really do. She’s beautiful and super fit and she  has it all together and it just seems like she would be the kind of girl who might not be very kind. But then you meet her, and get to know her, and she’s always, always smiling and encouraging. And so incredibly kind! Meet Coach Erica! To know her is to love her! She is truly one of the warmest, friendliest people you would ever hope to meet!

Erica has been active her whole life, so becoming a certified L1 CrossFit Trainer is a perfect fit for her in terms of a career. Erica is at the gym a LOT, between personal training, nutrition coaching, coaching New You, and group CrossFit classes. But what you might not know is that she spends the majority of her down time being an incredible mom to her two boys, Landon (9 years old) and Cameron (7 years old.) She loves doing anything outdoors with her kids and her family; the beach, hikes, sports. A couple of fun facts: she has been a vegetarian for thirteen years and she loves to play soccer! Coach Erica is so active and on the go that if she didn’t have kids, she wouldn’t even own a tv because she is too busy and doesn’t watch it herself. A perfect day off for her involves spending quality time with her two boys, getting outside, and making the most of the day. I asked Erica to share a little bit about herself so that we can get to know her better. Here’s what she has to say about being a mom, about health and fitness, and CrossFit.

How did you get involved in CrossFit? I came to try a class at SkeeTown CrossFit because I was bored with my fitness routine and I had hit a plateau. After my first class I was addicted and thought, “Where has THIS been my whole life?”

What do you enjoy most about coaching? I LOVE seeing people become a better version of themselves! Like a transformation right before my eyes! I am passionate about working with new athletes and helping them do things that they never thought were possible.

Do you think there is a particular type of client you really click with? Why? I like to teach, and I enjoy all different kinds of people. Anywhere from kids to the elderly and everyone in between. It’s amazing when I see our athletes gain confidence that carries over into all areas of their life. Not just in the gym. That’s really rewarding for me!

What is your philosophy about health and fitness? You must make it a lifestyle! CrossFit is all about being  an all around athlete and I completely agree with that. Nutrition is the foundation of fitness, but CrossFit includes metabolic conditioning, gymnastics, weight lifting and sports. Workouts are constantly changing and providing new challenges!

You’re a busy Mom. When do you workout? I stay very active with my two boys. We are outside a lot. Right now they are completely obsessed with baseball, so we play a lot of that and they like to tease me about being horrible at it. They give me a hard time for being the “most overprotective mom the world” but they might be right. Safety first! Their helmets must be on if they’re on their bike, and life jackets in the lake are a must.I burn off a lot of energy keeping up with them, and they keep me super busy. There have been days where between parenting my boys and being so busy at the gym, I missed my workout. However, I have come to realize I HAVE to set aside time to take care of myself. I’m no different that the clients I work with and I have to prioritize my time just like they do. I follow my own advice and actually make a habit of scheduling a workout into my day so I can set aside that time to take care of myself. One hour a day is not much in the scheme of things, to set aside so I can be happy and healthy, and around to be a good Mom to my boys for many years to come!

If you are looking for personal training, help with accountability, nutrition coaching, or someone who is interested in starting a workout/exercise program and you aren’t sure where to begin, come on in and meet with Coach Erica.
